- Be aware of the various features on the social media platforms that your teen uses. Developing brains may be particularly vulnerable to a variety of features including counting likes or scrolling.
- Implement a multi-pronged approach to social media management, including monitoring and discussing your teen’s use.
- Be a role model for healthy social media use in both words and actions.
- Watch for signs of an unhealthy social media relationship. A strong impulse to use social media, deceptive behavior, or choosing social media over routines or commitments can all be signs of problematic use.
- Teach social media literacy to promote positive experiences and decrease potential risks.
