Play Therapy
Play therapy is a form of therapy used primarily for children, who may not be able to process their own emotions or articulate problems to parents or other adults.
While it may look like an ordinary playtime, play therapy can be much more than that. A trained Simply Mindful Solutions therapist can use play to observe and gain insights into a child’s mind. The therapist can then help the child explore emotions and deal with unresolved difficulties or trauma. Through play, children can learn new coping mechanisms and how to redirect inappropriate behaviors. Play therapy works best when a safe relationship is created between the therapist and client, one in which the latter may freely and naturally express both what pleases and bothers them.
Types of issues that our clinicians can help children with include emotional dysregulation, disruptive and oppositional behaviors, social skills, anxiety, depression, attachment, parent-child relationship concerns, problem sexual behaviors, recovery from traumatic experiences, processing grief and loss, self-harming behaviors, and school refusal or other school-related difficulties.
