Welcome, I’m Ashley! The foundation of my work is knowing you are the expert of yourself and have everything you need already inside of you. While I join you with a compass and tools on our voyage, you are the captain of the ship. Setting sail on our quest, my hope is that you experience a meaningful return to yourself.
The beginning of my career began when I received my Bachelors of Science in Social Work and Minor in Child and Family Studies (Summa Cum Laude) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. From there, I attended the University of Pittsburgh where I graduated with my Masters of Social Work with a concentration in Mental Health.
My work has taken me to many different areas of mental health treatment: in-home services, outpatient hospitalization programs, behavioral health organizations, and private practices.
Most notably, I have worked as a Clinical Therapist in Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOP) and Adolescent Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHP) at a psychiatric hospital. At these higher levels of care, I completed individual, group, and family therapy as well as crisis intervention/stabilization. I worked with teens struggling with severe anxiety, major depression, paranoia, emotional disturbances, mood instability, substance abuse, dissociation, school avoidance, trauma-related symptoms, self injurious behavior, suicidal ideation, anger outbursts, behavioral changes, and family conflict.
I have also worked as an Intensive In-Home Clinician, a group facilitator at an outpatient social skills group for children and adolescents with Autism Spectrum Disorder, and a Clinical Therapist at private practices. I gained experiences working with children, teens, and adults of all ages. In these environments, areas of focus included the list above as well as stress management, bullying, difficult life transitions, low self esteem, navigating unhealthy relationships, distress tolerance, emotion regulation, attention/concentration difficulties distorted body image, obsessive compulsive symptoms, hopelessness, and communication challenges.
My approach begins first by creating a meaningful therapeutic relationship with all of my clients. This is the stronghold and catalyst for worthwhile emotional development. My role affirms a nonjudgmental space conducive to vulnerable self expression and exploration. The turmoil of life can leave us empty and at a loss, making the therapist-client alliance so crucial for building resiliency and hope. My goal is to help relieve and process through painful emotions, thoughts, and experiences while enlarging your coping skill toolbox.
For a little more about me, working with teenagers is where I thrive! My personality would be described as humorous and empathetic. I adore animals, especially my two cats. In my free time you’ll most likely find me traveling on the weekends, refilling my bird and squirrel feeders, tending to my plants, listening to a podcast, or relaxing with a freshly brewed cup of tea.
