My goal is to empower my clients to make the changes they see as important in their own lives. From the beginning of treatment, I focus on the outcomes my clients envision and through a collaborative approach, we work together to identify strengths as well as to foster development of new skills to access their desired change. In my many years of clinical practice, I am committed to a prescriptive and varied approach mining the richness of various treatment modalities to compassionately meet the client and/or families where they are and join with them on a journey to get where they want to be. I am a lifelong learner allowing me to offer a myriad of evidence-based treatments to help those I work with find calm and wisdom as well as the behavior change that they are after. I have developed specific expertise in trauma issues, anxiety, mood disorders, emotional regulation challenges, and attentional and executive function issues. The cornerstone of my work is sharing positivity, hope, and trust in my clients (even the littlest ones) in their power to work in therapy to effect change.
I received my undergraduate degree from Cornell University and doctoral degree in Psychology from Syracuse University. My professional career has spanned more than 35 years in the greater Washington, DC area working with children, adolescents, individual adults, marital couples, parents, and families. I have worked in hospital settings, residential treatment centers, school settings, outpatient clinics, and private practice.
In addition to my clinical work, I have co-authored two books: Understanding Depressed Adolescents and Their Families and Assessing Adolescents. I served on the board of the ARC of Maryland and the Maryland Assisted Technology Cooperative. I continue to volunteer in the community which is an important part of giving my life joy in addition to my work as a psychologist and my family.
