Meditation & Yoga

Meditation isn’t about becoming a different person, a new person, or even a better person. It’s about training in awareness and getting a healthy sense of perspective. You’re not trying to turn off your thoughts or feelings. You’re learning to observe them without judgment. Eventually, you may start to better understand them as well.

Meditation can give you a sense of calm, peace and balance that can benefit both your emotional well-being and your overall health. And these benefits don’t end when your meditation session ends. Meditation can help carry you more calmly through your day and may help you manage symptoms of certain medical conditions. Meditation is shown to lower anxiety, decreasing the production of cortisol, the incidents of Amygdala Hijack and lowering the reactionary responses of the Parasympathetic Nervous System. Basically, it helps you to slow down, observe and lower distress. This lowers hypertension and can boost your immunity. Yoga, in turn, allows for the gentle stretching, allowing for increasing of strength, balance and flexibility.

Learning to meditate is like learning any other skill. Think of it like exercising a muscle that you’ve never really worked out before. It takes consistent practice to get comfortable. And it’s usually easier if you have a teacher. We’ve got you covered there! We have an amazing instructor, Mike Ricker. He is a Qualified Mental Health Provider who just happens to also be trained in meditation and yoga.
